Choosing The Right Bra

Hi guys

I saw a photo on Instagram showing a side shot of a woman upper body (I’m not sure that it’s legal to share it here so I won’t) which made me write this post. The disturbing part was those deep reddish marks on her skin caused by her bra. It was shocking. I didn’t think that there were still women struggling with this issue since there are lots of information out there about the importance of choosing the right bra size and how it can affect ones health.

This is a random photo I found online. It’s not mine and I don’t know the artist. If anyone knows the artist name please let me know.

I won’t pretend that I’m an expert. I get my information through reading and following studies on the connection between wearing bra and women’s health issue. First of all this talk on importance of wearing bra that every girl gets to hear around puberty needs to stop.  No study has succeeded to prove any direct link between not wearing bra and saggy boobs, there is no evidence about that anywhere. So don’t wear any bra if you don’t have to, unless you have really big breasts and you need the extra support otherwise let your ladies be free and enjoy living. I won’t wear any bra unless it is absolutely necessary. I wear sport bra when I’m doing heavy exercise or when I’m wearing a reviling or a see through top.

The Importance Of Choosing The Right Size

On the occasions that you want to (or have to) wear a bra make sure that you have chosen the right one and I don’t mean fashion wise although that’s important too. Choose a bra that is not too tight, too small or big or completely wrong for your body type. The best and easiest way is to do your measurement at the same store that you’re shopping from. This will give you the best results.

There are four important parts of bra that you need to think about:

  • The cup
  • The straps
  • The center panel or bridge
  • The wings

None of these parts should put pressure on your skin in any position you are in yet leaving marks on your body. One always should feel comfortable while wearing a bra.

Some of the side effects of wearing wrong bra (small or big) are:

  • Back and shoulder pain
  • Nipple pain
  • Indigestion
  • Blocking the lymph nodes and vessels
  • Ruining your posture
  • Abrasions

This is so important that I would say don’t shop at the store that won’t do the measuring for you. Why would you spend your money where they show no concern to your health? Think about it. That does not make sense.

Breast Cancer&Bras

Although there are no approved link between wearing a tight bra and breast cancer there are lots of women who ignored their symptoms since they were accustomed to feeling uncomfortable or even having pain in the chest area due to wearing too tight bras. As a result they had got diagnosis a little too late while we all know the timing is everything when it comes to cancer treatment. I remember reading some of their stories in an article last summer. I was in tears. The fact that a modern woman living in 21St century still can be ignorant toward her health and body is absolutely horrifying. While there are tons of articles, speeches and health centers that are easily available to all of us. We need to be more proactive and attentive.

Signs that Your bra is not right for you:

  • Feel any pressure around the bra lines ( 4 areas I mentioned above)
  • Keep pulling up the straps
  • Having pain in your shoulders, neck and back area
  • Your ladies protrude from side or top of your bra
  • Back of your bra keeps riding up

Big Breasted Women

Some of us are more blessed than others when it comes to breast size, I’m not one of them by the way, for these women it’s hard to go braless. They need a constant support to keep their posture and health intact. If you are one of those lucky ladies keep in mind that wearing a tight bra does not mean that you get the best support. It’s a common mistake that you need to avoid. Get a professional help at the store and find the right type of bra for your body. Ask them to do your measurement and remember that you can be supported and comfortable at the same time.

How To Take Care of Yourself

Hi guys

As Salma Hayek said in her latest interview with Net-A-Porter “Women work harder than men and demand more of themselves, yet they have the sensation they don’t do enough”  (The Edit August2017, Net-A-Porter )*. It’s true we live a busy lifestyle nowadays. We want to do it all and take care of everyone which is admirable, yet from time to time and through all the chaos, we forget about and end up neglecting ourselves. There are many of us who think living a normal life, having a routine job and lifestyle is in opposition of taking care of ourselves as an individual in many ways. Or in order to do so we need lot’s of money and free time. This post is for all young women/mothers out there who take care of everyone and everything except themselves. Here are suggestions that you can use to treat and take care of yourself.

1-Wake up 15 minutes earlier

I know you don’t want to hear this but it’s inevitable. This is the first and most important step. You need some alone-time in your daily schedule ,even as little as 15 minutes, that you won’t do anything for anyone else but you. This is your time, use it the way you want just make sure that you are alone and there is no distraction. Choose your favorite spot around the house and read your favorite novel. Go for a quick walk. Do whatever you like, just make sure you’re doing it for yourself. I love to do some meditation or have a cup of tea on the balcony when the weather is fine. It will do wonders for your physical and mental health.

2-Take care of your body

Your body is the only one you get. You can replace almost everything in your life except your health. Take care of your body. Once in a while check your diet and make some changes to keep yourself at the top of your game. I think it’s a good idea to ask help from a professional. The same rule applies to your workout and exercise routine. Your body will adopt itself, so to get better results change is unavoidable. If you don’t have time or money to go to the gym there are lots of free at-home workout apps that you can use. Remember “A strong body makes the mind strong.” **

3-Take advantage of dead-times

We spent lots of time between places, whether it’s driving or using public transportation. These hours being waisted by listening to radio, music or day dreaming. Use this time wisely. Audio books and audio courses are two of the best options. They will let you choose exactly what you’re feeding your mind. My personal app is Audible (read about it here). Make a conscious decision on how you’re spending your time since it determines who you really are.

4-Get a Treatment

Once a month treat yourself with something special. Whether it’s a simple hair cut, foot massage or just having a cup of coffee at your favorite coffeeshop. Do it as a gesture of gratitude toward yourself for all the work you’ve done during that month. It doesn’t need to be something extraordinary just a symbol of recognition. Since I love stationery accessories and cute notebooks, that’s what I buy for myself from time to time. It may sound weird but it makes me feel good. Find small things that can lift your spirit and enjoy them.

5-Pay attention to your love life

I think love is source of happiness. Although this love can be love you’re feeling for your child or parents or even life in general, being cherished physically and spiritually is what we all need. Knowing that someone cares for you, listens to you and stands by you during this journey of life is as necessary as physical contact with another human being. It is crucial to stay connected with your partner. Don’t let all those worries and tiredness get between you two. Take this matter seriously and remember that it is a two-way street, you give and take.

These are results of my personal experience as a thirty-something years old woman. Hopefully it will give you some ideas and will help you be more kind and caring toward yourself.
